Sometimes it feels like everything goes wrong. Sunday morning we woke up extra early so that we'd have plenty of time to get ready for and even arrive early to church. I went to get Lydia out of her bed, and found a huge wet spot on her sheet. More like a puddle. I figured that her diaper must have malfunctioned, but when I went to change her she was bone dry. So how did her shorts get wet?? It surely wasn't a drool puddle... Or was it? Maybe. I guess we'll never know. Anyway we pulled her sheet off and blankets and then threw them in the wash with her mattress saver. It wasn't a big deal. We were still able to bathe the girls and get to church with plenty of time to spare. Then we were watching for family to arrive and everyone was filing in. We looked back to see the Bountiful crew enter and felt great knowing that everyone had made it. And then Simon threw up. Right in the chapel. Several ward members stepped forward to assist us, in addition to family members so that it didn't take long to clean things up. A sweet sister in the ward offered to help watch the boys during clean up, and then the meeting began. When it was time to bless Sophie Grandpa Blackhurst was nowhere to be found. Everyone else was standing in the circle. The brothers kept turning around to see if he was coming. I kept turning around. Abby stood up to see if she could locate him. Then the ward members started looking around. I started feeling anxious. I gave Jon the go ahead and we later found out that Dad had gone to throw away Simon's puke bag and made it back in time to hear the blessing- if only I'd waited just another minute or two! Dad could have stood in the circle. I'm just glad that he was there. I think Lizzie and Simon needed him more at the moment anyway.
Even though things didn't go exactly as I would have liked, everything came together in the end. The blessing was beautiful, and Sophie was quiet through it all. In fact, she was a sweetheart through the whole meeting and slept peacefully in Grandma Frazier's arms. The food afterward was delicious, and the company wonderful. I love family! It was awesome to see everyone helping each other (both at the chapel and afterward at our house) and we were so grateful for the food that was brought and the time we spent together. Mostly we just really appreciate that everyone who could make it came for Sophie. That meant more to me than I can say. I think there are moments in our lives when we realize what really matters and even though the day got off to a rough start, it didn't stay that way and we were able to spend it with people we love. I'm so grateful that Jon holds the Priesthood and was able to bless Sophie. It means so much to me knowing that he can give our girls blessings at times like these in addition to any other time when they might need one. And that is a huge blessing!
I'm sorry that things didn't go quite as you had hoped, but I'm glad that most everyone could be there. So here's a question: what is the protocol for baby outfits for blessings. Is there one? Sophie's dress is super cute, but you don't have to bless your baby in white, do you?
ReplyDeleteGreat question! I really don't know... It seems like you don't have to, but I don't know that I've ever seen anyone bless their baby in anything else. Have you done some more research? Do you have a plan for Ace? Jon's Mom has purchased both of our girls' dresses, so we've never had to worry about finding one on our own. So sweet of her. :) Let me know what you decide to do!
DeleteSarah, I don't think the baby has to be in white. My sister-in-law had her boy wear khaki pants on his blessing day.
DeleteMost of the boy "blessing attire" isn't that cute, to be honest. But maybe you could find something?
Also, sorry, again, to have thrown up on your baby blessing. That was so rude of us. :)
ha, ha....I finally remembered to get on and check out your blog!!! and you have some super cute posts!!! I was expecting to see like 1 or 2, but you have been keeping up....slowly but steady!! =)
ReplyDeleteSophie is such a doll! I've decided that you and Jon have adorably cute children and will have to have a bunch more so we can just see how cute they are!!
I love Sophie's cute little head band and beautiful flowing dress. That's one reason I'd love to have a girl is just for the dresses!! Wish we could've been at the blessing; I'm sure it was wonderful!
Anywho, I loved Lydia's super cute horse cake and party. I did a horse cake for Conner's 1st b-day, but it definitely wasn't a pink pony party! We had a cowboy party, and I think your cake turned out way cuter than the one I made. We just came up with it on our own (during the dark ages of no pinterest....). =)
Well, I hope you keep up with your posts, cause I really enjoyed looking at all these fun pictures of lots of people I love!!
Stacey
ps. Happy Be-lated Anniversary!!!! I heard it was about as good as ours was.....except my husband was atleast in town that week. But we had the pleasure of feeding the Elders that night, which was totally fine. We've never been able to celebrate on our actual wedding date for the last almost 9 years (and this was #11), with Lance's work schedule it always turns out to be a bad day, so we do cards and then will possibly go out to dinner at a later date. But it doesn't matter how you celebrate, it matters who you celebrate with, right?? =)
Love and miss you guys!!
Oh Stacey!!
DeleteI read your cute comment and then told myself I'd respond later and suddenly it's been almost two months!! Blah! I have no idea how that happened! I wish you could have been here too! We sure miss you guys! And the dresses are super fun. :) thanks to your mom both Lydia and Sophie looked adorable on their special day. You and Lance would clearly have beautiful girls- just look at Conner and Eric! Such handsome boys! They're all the proof you need.
Happy belated anniversary too! Maybe one day- even if it another 11 years down the road- you two will be able celebrate on your actual day. Us too! I love that the year Lydia was born we had pretty much forgotten. She was only a week old. I guess we had other things on our mind! Way to host the missionaries on your anniversary! That's so sweet! Do you do that a lot? Your parents said they were over again while they were there just the other week! Now that my brother's on his mission I think anyone taking care of missionaries is the best!
I bet Conner's cake turned out great! If I had made Lydia's up on my own it would have been super special, I'm sure, but definitely not cute! I am a fan of Pinterest. I'm just trying to not spend too much time there or on FB. I get sucked in and then I'm sad I spent so much time on it. Boo.
I hope things are going well for you guys! Thanks for your comment!
Becca :)
